The Art & History Museums – Maitland (A&H) presents an evening of art, fashion, music, poetry and fun withCulture Pop! on Friday, January 10 from 7 to 11 PM at the A&H’s Maitland Art Center, 231 W. Packwood Avenue, Maitland. This month’s Culture Pop! is titled The Dapper Date: Celebrating the Art of Fashion, and features artful fashion by Other People’s Property.
Culture Pop! is a monthly, one-night only pop-up exhibition of Central Florida’s fine artists and artisans. Guests take part in interactive art happenings, enjoy music, listen to flash fiction and literary readings performed by Maitland Poets and Writers, and relax in our Mayan Lounge with music, mingling, craft beer and fine wines.
Fashion has been a celebrated art form in popular culture for decades, and our January artisan, Other People’s Property, specializes in vintage clothing from all eras. Looking to thrift stores, estate sales, & vintage shops to find the best or what could be the best, Other People’s Property fixes, updates, and alters clothes to make them more current.
Models will showcase fashions from each decade, and clothing will be on display and for sale. Other People’s Property has a deep commitment to philanthropy, giving funds to Hati, Uganda, and to charity: water. For the January event, Other People’s Property will present a line of clothing in which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the A&H. Patrons are invited to donate old clothing for updating and resale to the A&H line by dropping off clothes at the A&H’s Maitland Art Center during normal business hours prior to the event.
After viewing the stunning fashions by Other People’s Property, be sure to stay and enjoy music by Chasing Jonah, relax in the Mayan Lounge featuring music, food, and libations, and join us in the Packwood Avenue Reading room for readings by Maitland Poets and Writers, featuring Girl's Garments on Parade. The perfect complement to this night of fashion and fun, Girls Garments on Parade features the “Lady Ladies,” a wild foursome of females who reminisce their way through the wonders of wearing woman’s garments. Laughter gives way to tenderness as they explore what it means to be a woman from the angle of blue jeans and braziers.
Culture Pop is your one-stop Friday night experience!
